At Browns Plains State School, we are a cluster schools leader in STEM and Digital Technology. We have a designated STEM/ Digital Technology teacher and we partner with several primary and secondary schools in our area to provide Days of Excellence in STEM, Robotics and Coding.
We partner with local pre-prep and Kindergarten centres to provide opportunities for their children to begin coding and provide training and support for their teaching staff. In our school we have developed a joint digital technology curriculum with our partner schools to enable us to provide training and support in teaching, learning and resources for the successful implementation of digital technologies.
We also provide Problem Solving and Coding days for students from partner schools to attend and build their technology skills. We coordinate an Under 8’s Day of Coding and Robotics in May and a Middle Years 5 – 7 coding day for older students to engage with the high school programs as well.
We facilitate teacher training days and planning days for teaching staff as well as lead fortnightly Learning Lounges for professional development. We also support parent education through Coffee & Chat each fortnight. To support this continuing and expanding work in digital technologies, we have extended our existing Library to develop a STEM Innovation and Training Hub - opening mid year 2020.
