At Browns Plains State School, we are focussed on providing the best possible foundation for young learners. We are one of sixty privileged trial schools across Australia using the NQS National Quality Standard to assess and improve the educational provision for children from birth to 8 years of age.
These standards mean we are continuously exploring the best curriculum and pedagogy and seeking to improve our teaching, learning environment, parent engagement and governance operations.
Over the last few years we have been enhancing our curriculum with explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy and fun engaging learning contexts for our children. We also have a designated STEM teacher to introduce our young learners to coding and robotics. They love this learning platform and it is a wonderful way of engaging children in deep learning – collaboration, communication, problem solving critical and creative thinking. These skills build confidence and resilience as learners and set the foundation for success throughout their futures.
We also know how to build great literacy skills and confidence as readers and writers. Our Prep and Year 1 children receive individual reading instruction every day. This makes and enormous difference to their skills. We also engage children in setting reading and writing goals and checking their progress to build their character and become accustomed to succeeding in challenges.
We have a designated pre-prep teacher who works closely with pre-prep centres and kindergartens to support our parents in the transition to school. We run a Jelly Bean Room playgroup each Friday to encourage families to come to school meet our staff and meet other parents. It is a great way to transition children to school.
We spend time interviewing each new family and getting to know your child.
